Dehradun (Uttarakhand) [India], October 27 (ANI): Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami flagged off new BS-06 model buses for the Uttarakhand Transport Corporation fleet at ISBT Dehradun on Sunday.
On the occasion of Diwali, CM Dhami presented 130 new buses to the people of the state. These BS-06 model buses are a recent addition to the Uttarakhand Transport Corporation’s fleet, and the Chief Minister launched them from ISBT Dehradun.
CM Dhami stated, “Our aim is to serve those at the farthest end of society. Today, with the launch of these 130 buses, we are focused on providing better facilities to the people of Uttarakhand, enhancing transportation, and promoting economic policy… We will also introduce electric buses to this fleet in the future.”
He highlighted that these modern, technology-equipped buses are a significant step in strengthening the state’s transport system.
“With the addition of these 130 new buses to the Uttarakhand Transport Corporation fleet, we are not only providing a safe, convenient, and economical travel experience but also revitalising the economic, social, and tourism activities in the state,” Dhami added.
He acknowledged the challenging geographical conditions in Uttarakhand compared to other states, noting that remote and rural areas rely heavily on the transport network for essential services.
The Chief Minister further emphasised that the tourism sector forms the backbone of Uttarakhand’s economy. “In this context, a strong transport system is crucial for passenger convenience and contributes to economic growth. We are committed to connecting every part of the state through a robust road network and reliable transport services.”
He added that the government is consistently working to reinforce the Uttarakhand Transport Corporation. “A few years ago, our Transport Corporation had losses exceeding Rs500 crore. However, it has been profitable for the last three years,” he noted, praising the efforts of the Corporation’s officers and employees.
CM Dhami declared his ambition to make this decade the “decade of Uttarakhand.”
“Today, Uttarakhand ranks among the leading states in many fields. It holds the top spot in NITI Aayog’s Sustainable Development Goals index. Maintaining this achievement is a challenge. The state’s GSDP has risen sharply, and the unemployment rate has declined. Soon, electric buses will also join our fleet.”
He assured that the government is attentive to the needs of drivers and conductors.
“From increasing DA and implementing 7th Pay Commission recommendations to addressing staffing needs through new hires, we are fully committed to their welfare. As a Diwali bonus, incentives have also been announced for drivers, operators, and technical staff,” he concluded. (ANI)
