Prayagraj (Uttar Pradesh) [India], August 11 (ANI): The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) remains on high alert around low-lying areas of Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, due to flooding caused by heavy rain on Sunday.
Visuals from the city show a team of the administration and NDRF taking stock of the situation in Bakshi Bandh, Chhota Baghara, Nagvasuki Mandir and the Sangam area.
Additionally, NDRF Inspector Anil Kumar said that he had been deployed in Prayagraj for one week with a team of 11 battalions and that the situation was beginning to turn normal.
Speaking to ANI, Kumar said “I have been deployed in Prayagraj for the first one week with one team of 11th Battalion. The situation in Prayagraj has been normal for the last two days as the flood water has been receding. It all depends on the rain in the hills if the water is released from the dams, then the water levels might increase again.”
Additionally, the Indian Meteorological Department has predicted thundershowers with very heavy rain at isolated places in Uttar Pradesh till August 16.
Earlier, on August 8, heavy rains in the state led to water levels in the Ganga River rising and submerging the ghats.
Anand, a pilgrim from Delhi, said that due to heavy rains, he was not able to visit the Kashi Vishwanath temple and have the blessings of Lord Shiva.”I had come here from Delhi to visit the temple and take the blessings. However, it’s been raining here a lot and we have been asked not to go out. Yesterday, a house had collapsed and now the Ghats have submerged here.
Although the river is still flowing below the danger mark, the water has entered the houses in the Baghada, Salori and Rajapur areas of Varanasi. Visuals from Prayagraj show people were seen using boats to commute. (ANI)
