New Delhi [India], June 7 (ANI): Himachal Pradesh former Chief Minister and BJP leader Jairam Thakur on Friday dismissed the opposition’s assertions that the BJP-led NDA government would falter in the long run. He said that all allies of the NDA extended their support for the proposal of naming Narendra Modi as leader of the NDA Parliamentary Party.
Speaking with ANI, Jairam Thakur on the question of Congress’ claim that the new government will not be able to run for a long time, said, “I don’t think there is any meaning in their words. ‘Mujhe lagta hai ki inn sari baato ka koi arth nahi, koi matlab nahi hai.”
He added further, “This is not the first time that we are forming a government with the NDA partners. This is not the first time that we are working with NDA. We have been working together for years.”
He also said that the parties who wanted to work together have become allies of the NDA. “All allies of NDA extended their support for the proposal of naming Narendra Modi as leader of NDA Parliamentary Party,” Thakur said.
Himachal Pradesh’s former Chief Minister also spoke about Janata Dal-United (JDU) Chief Nitish Kumar and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) supremo Nara Chandrababu Naidu. He said, “Nitish Kumar and Chandrababu Naidu have reiterated their commitment towards the NDA. They have said that the country needs a strong leadership and a strong vision. They have asserted that Narendra Modi is one of the most popular leaders and under his leadership, the nation will move forward. States as well as the whole country will be benefitted under his leadership.”
On losing several seats in Uttar Pradesh, he said, “Rajniti me aisi daur aate rehte hai. Haar jeet chalte rehti hai. (Such times keep coming in politics. Wins and losses keep going on.) The party will assess this outcome and will try to find out the reason behind it. We will try to ensure that in the coming time, we will try to make things better.”
Notably, the INDIA alliance partner Samajwadi Party emerged as the biggest party in Uttar Pradesh and secured 37 seats. BJP, on the other hand, won 33 seats. Congress won six seats.
On the third term of Narendra Modi as Prime Minister, Thakur said, “PM has said that this will be a time of bigger and stronger decisions. Everyone’s cooperation is needed for the country to move forward. Now, we have to start our work immediately. The next five years will be good under Modi’s leadership.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to take oath for third successive term in office on June 9, sources said.
BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) won a successive third term in office in the results of Lok Sabha elections declared on June 4.
Sources said PM Modi’s swearing-in ceremony may take place at 6 pm on June 9.
Earlier there was speculation that the swearing-in ceremony of the new NDA government led by PM Modi would take place on Saturday.
There is no official confirmation yet of the date of the oath-taking ceremony. Leaders of parties in the National Democratic Alliance held a meeting on Wednesday and elected Prime Minister Narendra Modi as their leader.
PM Modi later said that NDA will work towards building a developed India.”Met our valued NDA partners. Ours is an alliance that will further national progress and fulfil regional aspirations. We will serve the 140 crore people of India and work towards building a Viksit Bharat,” PM Modi said in a tweet on Wednesday.
According to the Election Commission of India, the BJP won 240 seats, much lower than its 2019 tally of 303. The Congress, on the other hand, registered a strong improvement, winning 99 seats. While the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance won 292 seats, the INDIA bloc crossed the 230 mark, posing stiff competition, and defying all predictions. (ANI)
