Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala) [India], May 28 (ANI): A fisherman died after the fishing vessel he was travelling in capsized in Muthalapozhi in Kerala’s Thiruvanathapuram, authorities said on Tuesday.
The deceased, identified as Abraham hailed from Attingal municipality and his boat capsized while returning to shore in the Muthalapozhi harbour area.
The boat was ferrying a total of four people at the time of the incident. Three of them were rescued by local authorities.
Immediately after the mishap, Abraham, in a serious condition, was rushed to a private hospital where he was declared dead. The two other injured individuals were also admitted to the hospital, are receiving treatment and kept under medical supervision.
The owner of the boat, Stany hails from the district’s Anchuthengu panchayat.
In a similar boat capsize incident, a person jumped into the sea and escaped.
Local authorities are investigating the cause of the boat capsize and have also urged fishermen to take extra precautions while boating in the river and backwaters.
Since the beginning of 2024, this region has already seen 11 fatalities due to various accidents, with two patients having died in unrelated incidents. (ANI)
