Amritsar (Punjab) [India], June 1 (ANI): BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh on Saturday took a veiled jibe at Congress and the Gandhi family for criticising PM Modi for meditating at Vivekananda Rock Memorial in Kanniyakumari and said that the people for whom Italy is the best will not know India’s culture.
“Those who are raising questions about OM meditating at Vivekananda Rock Memorial – it is unfortunate. They think West is Best. But Swami Vivekananda had said in Chicago that India is the best. He waved the flag of India’s culture across the world. Those who spend their vacation at nightclubs and pubs, for whom Italy is the best will not know India’s culture. They will not know the contribution of Swami Vivekananda. We are proud that PM Modi is meditating at Vivekananda Rock Memorial,” the BJP leader said.
Prime Minister Modi is currently in Kanniyakumari, engaged in meditation at the Dhyan Mandapam, the very site where revered Hindu philosopher Swami Vivekananda is believed to have had a divine vision about ‘Bharat Mata’. His meditation is slated to continue till today.
Chugh further urged everyone to come out and vote in large numbers
“Exercising one’s franchise is very important. There should be a strong government in the country for the next 5 years, and a decisive and dynamic leader should lead us. So, every voter should vote…I urge everyone to vote,” he said.
Tarun Chugh along with his family members cast their vote at a polling booth in Amritsar. They also showed the indelible ink mark on their fingers after voting.
Taranjit Singh Sandhi, who retired after serving as the Indian envoy to the United States, is in the electoral fray in Amritsar against Congress’ sitting MP and candidate Gurjeet Singh Aujla, AAP’s Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal, and Shiromani Akali Dal’s Anil Joshi.
All 13 parliamentary constituencies of Punjab are voting today in the last phase of the Lok Sabha polls.
The seventh and final phase of polling in the largest festival of democracy started on Saturday as voting started in the last 57 parliamentary constituencies at 7 am across seven states and the Union Territory of Chandigarh.
Polling for the earlier six phases of Lok Sabha elections was held on April 19, April 26, May 7, May 13, May 20 and May 25. Assembly polls have also been held in Andhra Pradesh, Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh. Odisha is seeing simultaneous polls to Lok Sabha and assembly in the last four phases. (ANI)
