New Delhi [India], December 7 (ANI): Farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher on Saturday urged the Government and Parliament to hold a discussion over the farmers issue and the action taken by security forces at the Sambu border in Parliament.
The security forces used tear gas shelling to disperse the protestors on Friday after the farmers launched ‘Delhi Chalo’ march, demanding a legal guarantee or MSP on crops from the central government.
“Parliament is our temple of democracy and we want discussion on farmers issues. In parliament, neither the government nor the opposition raised our issues about how central forces behaved mercilessly at the Shambhu border,” he said.
Pandher claimed that the central government has “no interest” in talking to the farmers to resolve the issue
“The Central Government has no interest in talking with us, And now we are not seeing any program for negotiation between the Government. I haven’t received any proposal to talk with the government. The highest numbers of voters belong to the farmers and labourers community. It seems that there is no MP who could talk about farmers in the parliament,” he said.
On Police using the tear gas shelling at Sambhu border, Pandher claimed that 20 farmers have suffered injuries. Pandher also said that a ‘Jattha’ of rs 101 farmers will march towards Delhi on Sunday if the government do not hold talk with us.
“When we see the merciless behaviour from the central government to the County’s unarmed farmers and labourers, For the recovery we need time so far 20 farmers have been injured in yesterday’s agitation (101 farmers Delhi March). Many Farmer’s organisations are supporting our Delhi chalo – 2, Farmers will wait for talks with the govt, otherwise, a ‘Jattha’ of 101 farmers will march towards Delhi on 8 December at 12 noon,” he said.
He expressed farmers’ dissatisfaction with both the NDA government at the centre and INDIA bloc-led government in states.
“Whether it is the Modi government or the INDIA Government in the States. Farmers are not happy there are problems in all governments. Even in Punjab, Punjabs are not happy with the AAP government’s work,” he said.
Pandher criticised the opposition saying they “only want to bake bread” when the issue is in the media.
“As far as the opposition is concerned, if anyone gives a statement I can’t say is this not fair? But when farmers are facing problems and issues are in the media then only they want to bake political bread in the name of farmers. We are not seeing farmers’ concern in their agenda,” Pandher said.
The farmer leader highlighted the condition of farmers and labourers in the country and said that they were only asking for a fair price for their crops.
“The conditions of Farmers and labourers are not good. Our demand is we want a fair price for our crops. On one hand, all corporate sectors have the right to fix the price of their products, on the other hand, farmers are not getting the fair price of their crops,” he said.
Farmer are protesting at the Sambhu border to press for several demands, including compensation and a legal guarantee for the Minimum Support Price (MSP). (ANI)
