Siliguri (West Bengal) [India], September 25 (ANI): The Excise department officials seized a huge quantity of non-duty paid liquor in West Bengal’s Siliguri on Wednesday.
The officers of Jalpaiguri Excise division intercepted a vehicle which was coming from Darjeeling’s Ghoom area and during the thorough checking the officers found a huge quantity of non-duty paid liquor loaded on the back side of the van.
The team of the officers also arrested two persons who are residents of Bijanbari in Darjeeling.
According to the special Commissioner of Excise, Preventive, Jalpaiguri division, the team seized 121 cases of beer around 950 liters,11 cases of whisky around 100 liters and 14 cases of rum around 130 liters. The team also seized the vehicle which was used for smuggling.
Sujit Das, Special Commissioner of Excise, Preventive, Jalpaiguri division said,”We had information that a vehicle loaded with non-duty paid liquor will enter the territory of West Bengal state. Then we set up a watch duty near Ghoom last night and this early morning we found the vehicle and after hot chasing intercepted the vehicle near Makaibari tea estate area. During the search operation a huge quantity of smuggle liquor has been seized.”
“Following the upcoming Durga puja, we have strengthened the nakas, surprise watch duties in several locations and strengthened the network to combat the illegal operations”, he added. (ANI)
