New Delhi [India], November 20 (ANI): The recently released film ‘The Sabarmati Report’ is making waves across the country, with high-profile screenings and endorsements from key political figures and film industry veterans.
Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, Minister of State Suresh Gopi, and ‘The Sabarmati Report’ producer Ektaa Kapoor were among those present at the screening of the movie, held in the national capital today.
Ektaa Kapoor, the producer of the film, expressed a mix of excitement and nervousness at the event. Speaking to the media, she said, “I am overwhelmed by the response. Such esteemed personalities are watching the movie today. I am happy as well as nervous. But this film has been made from the heart. It is a factual film, based on true events… I think people will like it.”
‘The Sabarmati Report’, directed by Dheeraj Sarna, delves into the 2002 Godhra train coach-burning incident, which led to widespread riots in Gujarat.
The film presents a critical look at the tragic event, offering a narrative that counters the distorted versions of history propagated by some elements at the time. The movie’s impact extends beyond the film industry, with political figures acknowledging its historical significance.
Rajasthan’s Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma announced on social media that the state government has decided to make ‘The Sabarmati Report’ tax-free.
“Our Government has taken a meaningful decision to make the film ‘The Sabarmati Report’ tax free in Rajasthan. This film realistically depicts that horrific period of history, which some selfish elements tried to distort to fulfill their vested interests,” Sharma wrote.

He further emphasized the importance of the film, noting that it “not only effectively exposes the reality of the then system, but also refutes the misleading and false narratives propagated at that time.”
Sharma said that the film must be watched by the public as it presents the truth with sensitivity and provides valuable lessons for understanding the present and guiding the future.
Yesterday, Madhya Pradesh, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav spoke to actor Vikrant Massey over video call and congratulated him for his work in it. CM Yadav further said that he would also watch the movie with all the state cabinet ministers today.
“I spoke to the actor of the film ‘The Sabarmati Report’, Vikrant Massey, through a video call and congratulated him for his excellent acting in the movie. We have also made this film tax free in Madhya Pradesh. Today, I am going to watch this film with all my cabinet ministers,” CM Yadav said in a post on X .
On Tuesday, the Chief Minister declared the movie The Sabarmati Report tax-free in the state. He lauded the film, describing it as impactful, and encouraged the state ministers and the Members of Parliaments (MPs) to watch it.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also weighed in on the film’s significance.
Responding to a post on social media by a user who praised ‘The Sabarmati Report’, the Prime Minister remarked, “It is good that this truth is coming out, and that too in a way common people can see it. A fake narrative can persist only for a limited period. Eventually, the facts will always come out!”
The Prime Minister’s endorsement has sparked widespread discussion about the movie’s impact.
Actor Riddhi Dogra, who plays a key role in the film, expressed her gratitude for the Prime Minister’s praise, calling it “the biggest reward” for the entire team. “I am very humbled and speechless,” she added.
In addition to the praise from Prime Minister Modi, ‘The Sabarmati Report’ has also garnered the attention of other prominent political figures.
Actor Vikrant Massey, a member of the film’s cast, recently met Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in Lucknow.
Following their meeting, Yogi Adityanath shared a picture with Massey on social media, expressing his admiration for the film.
Massey also shared his gratitude on Instagram, saying, “Today got an opportunity to meet Hon’ble Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Their appreciation has inspired the entire team of ‘The Sabarmati Report’. Heartfelt thanks for this respect and affection.”
At the heart of ‘The Sabarmati Report’ lies the story of the tragic burning of the S-6 coach of the Sabarmati Express near Godhra station in Gujarat on February 27, 2002.
The attack claimed the lives of at least 59 Hindu devotees who were returning from Ayodhya. The incident sparked riots across Gujarat, and the events surrounding it have been the subject of intense debate and controversy over the years.
The film, produced by Ektaa Kapoor, Shobha Kapoor, Amul V Mohan, and Anshul Mohan, presents a fresh perspective on the tragic event. The film stars Raashii Khanna, Riddhi Dogra, and Vikrant Massey in pivotal roles. (ANI)
