Gurugram (Haryana) [India], November 6 (ANI): Former Chief Election Commissioner SY Quraishi said on Wednesday that Donald Trump shares “very good chemistry” with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in contrast to Kamala Harris, who, he noted, has not made any pro-India statements over the past four years.
Quraishi added that the US Presidential election was closely contested, with Kamala Harris effectively positioned as the Democratic candidate due to President Joe Biden’s health concerns.
“This is not a surprise because there was such a close fight…Kamala Harris began really well but in the last 10-15 days, there was no strength in her speeches…It was clear that Biden’s health was deteriorating so Kamala Harris was put forward as a Democrat candidate…Now the question is who would have been better for India. India had pros and cons in both cases,” Qureshi told ANI.
He continued, “We used to speculate that since Kamala Harris had an Indian origin that would benefit us but she gave no pro-India comment in the last 4 years. On the contrary, Donald Trump has a very good chemistry with Prime Minister Modi…”
Donald Trump won a second term in office in the Presidential polls.
PM Modi congratulated Donald Trump soon after his victory in the Presidential polls and said he looked forward to renewing their collaboration to further strengthen the India-US Comprehensive Global and Strategic Partnership.
“Heartiest congratulations my friend @realDonaldTrump on your historic election victory. As you build on the successes of your previous term, I look forward to renewing our collaboration to further strengthen the India-US Comprehensive Global and Strategic Partnership. Together, let’s work for the betterment of our people and to promote global peace, stability and prosperity,” PM Modi said in a post on X.
Trump has got over 270 threshold electoral college votes needed to win the presidency.
This will be only the second instance of a president serving two non-consecutive terms in the White House, the first in over 100 years. Grover Cleveland served as a non-consecutive president in 1884 and 1892. Trump had earlier served as US President from 2016 to 2020. (ANI)
