Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], June 9 (ANI): After the DMK meeting, party leader T K S Elangovan expressed gratitude towards Chief Minister M K Stalin for his extensive campaigning efforts, which he credited as pivotal in securing the party’s sweeping victory in Tamil Nadu.
“We thanked the Chief Minister for travelling throughout the state, for campaigning and playing a major role in the victory of all leaders in Tamil Nadu,” Elangovan said.
“We have passed the resolution stating that it is a check to the BJP who were trying to amend the constitution in their favour and the one country one nation and one election all oneness with India’s diversity. India is known for unity and diversity. They want to abolish that diversity so we passed a resolution to maintain the diversity and unity of the country,” Elangovan said.
Earlier on June 8 a meeting of DMK MPs was held at the party headquarters in Chennai.
DMK president and Chief Minister MK Stalin chaired the meeting of the party MPs at the party’s headquarters, Anna Arivalayam.
Notably, the DMK won 22 out of the 39 seats in Tamil Nadu while the BJP was left with nil, as per the Election Commission of India (ECI) data.
While DMK allies Congress won 9 seats, Communist Party of India won 2, Communist Party of India – Marxist won 2, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi won 2, Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and Indian Union Muslim League won one seat each, respectively.
According to the Election Commission of India, the BJP won 240 seats, much lower than its 2019 tally of 303. The Congress, on the other hand, registered a strong improvement, winning 99 seats. While the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance won 292 seats, the INDIA bloc crossed the 230 mark, posing stiff competition, and defying all predictions. (ANI)
