Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India], June 22 (ANI): Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath during a meeting on Saturday reviewed the works of the Home Guard department and gave major guidelines including the completion of recruitment of 42,000 Home Guard volunteers in two phases.
While addressing the meeting, Adityanath also praised the Home Guard volunteers for their dedication and said, “Whether it is a matter of law and order, or an opportunity to help the general public during disasters, Home Guard volunteers have always demonstrated their dedication. The service spirit of Home Guard volunteers is inspiring. Home Guard volunteers of Uttar Pradesh have also done excellent work in various states.”
Talking about the recruitment of the Home Guard volunteers in the state, the UP Chief Minister said, “There are more than 76,000 full-time Home Guard volunteers in the state. About 75,000 are posted at duty points. Out of these, about 4000 Home Guards volunteers are retiring every year.”
He added, “According to estimates, more than 42,000 Home Guards volunteers will retire by the year 2033. Therefore, the process of new appointments should be completed on time. Proceed with the target of deploying 21,000 Home Guard volunteers each in two phases.”
The Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister also talked about recruiting disaster friends and giving them an opportunity to serve as Home Guard volunteers. “We already have skilled manpower in the form of disaster friends deployed through the State Disaster Management Authority. We should make good use of them. Disaster friends should be trained and given an opportunity to serve as Home Guard volunteers. In this regard, coordinate with the State Disaster Management Authority and get the rules prepared by obtaining legal advice,” Adityanath said.
The Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister also asserted that the volunteers serving as Home Guards should also be trained as disaster friends.
“Home Guards volunteers currently serving should also be given training as disaster friends. Weekly drills should be conducted for the physical fitness of Home Guard volunteers,” Adityanath said. (ANI)
