New Delhi [India], October 10 (ANI): Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor claimed on Thursday that there have been multiple encroachments in Chandni Chowk and surrounding areas and demanded a surprise inspection of Delhi Municipal Corporation (MCD) Commissioner, Ashwani Kumar, urging him to look into the matter.
In a statement released by the Delhi BJP spokesperson, he said that Chandni Chowk’s main road, Cycle Market, H.C. Sen Road, the roads around Town Hall, Diwan Hall Road, Khari Baoli, Church Road, Nai Sarak, Fatehpuri, and Old Delhi Railway Station Road had multiple encroachments and various illegal rickshaws and e-rickshaws.
“The spokesperson has requested the Municipal Commissioner to personally conduct a surprise inspection of Chandni Chowk and surrounding areas to witness the poor condition and take appropriate action,” read the statement.
Kapoor further claimed that there have been multiple complaints lodged by the people, but officials have not taken any action on them.
“In his letter, Mr. Kapoor highlighted that areas such as Diwan Hall Road, in front of Sheesh Ganj Gurdwara, outside Omaxe Mall, in front of Kuncha Rehman, around Town Hall, from Nai Sarak to Jogiwara, at Fatehpuri Chowk, Khari Baoli, Pili Kothi, and both sides of the Railway Station Road are severely encroached upon, and immediate action is necessary,” the statement added.
A few weeks earlier, Delhi mayor Shelly Oberoi had written to the MCD commissioner, asking him to share the status of maintenance and construction of the MCD roads.
The Delhi mayor also inspected the condition of roads in Chandni Chowk, which comes under the North Delhi district, and said that now onwards a night shift will be there for the cleaning work in the Chandni Chowk area.
“Today, while on an inspection tour of Chandni Chowk with MCD officers, I instructed that apart from the morning and evening shifts, cleaning will now be done in the dedicated night shift as well. I have asked the Deputy Commissioner to present the proposal within a week,” Delhi mayor wrote in a post on X. (ANI)
