Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], August 16 (ANI): West Bengal Police Commissioner Vineet Kumar Goyal urged people not to believe in “rumours” and “narratives” created by some people in the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata and said they should have faith in the CBI which is investigating the matter.
The official said, “A three-member team conducted the postmortem and it is on video. The CBI has access to the postmortem video. There is no doubt as far as transparency is concerned.”
The Police Commissioner denied rumours that stated that the police had informed the victim’s family that she had committed suicide and that 150 grams of semen were found in the body of the deceased, adding that officials are cooperating with the CBI and that the people should have faith in the agency and police for further investigation.
Speaking to the media on Friday, WB Police Commissioner Vineet Kumar Goyal said, “Far too many rumours are floating that have no basis, and based on them, a lot of so-called experts are creating narratives. The case has now gone to the CBI and let’s have faith in the agency. In the very little time we had, our officers tried to do everything possible. We are liable for legal action if anyone in our team has done anything wrong.”
He categorically dismissed the rumours that the state Police informed the victim’s family about the victim committing suicide.
“Why is rumour-mongering going on even now? It is wrong that we have informed the victim’s family that she committed suicide. It is wrong that 150 grams of semen were found in her body,” Police Commissioner Vineet Kumar clarified.
Adding further, the police commissioner said, “Our officers are cooperating with the CBI with anything that they need. I don’t see why it is being spread that we wanted to hush up the matter and finish it. Videography was done and all evidence was collected in the presence of family and friends.”
Meanwhile, as many as 25 people have been arrested in connection with the vandalism by an unidentified mob at the RG Kar Hospital campus on August 14, causing damage to the protest site, vehicles, and public property.
On Wednesday night, a mob entered the RG Kar Hospital campus, causing damage to the protest site, vehicles, and public property. Security officials were forced to intervene to disperse the crowd.
The Kolkata Police took to its official handle on X to share the development and posted, “As of now, we have made 25 arrests in relation to the vandalism at RG Kar Hospital on Wednesday night.”
“Four more suspects were identified by netizens from our social media posts. The search for the remaining suspects is ongoing. Thank you once again for your support,” read the post.
A team of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) visited the RG Kar Medical College Hospital on Thursday afternoon for a digital blueprint of the doctor rape-murder incident.
Earlier in the day, four doctors of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital were summoned by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Kolkata, amid the ongoing protest over the rape-murder of the trainee doctor, sources said.
According to the sources, the CBI summoned these PGTs (PG trainees) for interrogation regarding what happened the night of the incident.
Accused Sanjoy Roy was also brought out of the CBI Special Crime Branch in the CGO complex in Kolkata for a medical examination.
Doctors across the nation intensified their protests over the rape and murder of the trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College.Junior doctors and medical students at Gandhi Hospital in Hyderabad staged a protest against the rape and murder case at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.
Late on August 14, Kolkata Commissioner of Police Vineet Goyal said the police could not arrest anyone just based on rumours that were being spread.
Earlier on Thursday, West Bengal BJP president Sukanta Majumdar alleged that vandalism at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital was an attempt to destroy evidence.
On August 9, a post-graduate trainee doctor was found dead in the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata. The victim’s family has alleged that she was raped and murdered. This incident has triggered a nationwide protest by doctors and medical fraternities. (ANI)
