Assam: 28 ‘declared foreigners’ sent to transit camp – World News Network

Barpeta (Assam) [India], September 3 (ANI): In a significant development, police in Assam’s Barpeta district transferred 28 foreigners to the transit camp at Matia in the Goalpara district. These individuals had previously been declared ‘illegal’ by the Foreigners’ Tribunals.
The group, comprising 9 women and 19 men, was escorted under tight security to Goalpara on September 2.
Police apprehended all 28 declared foreigners from various locations within the district, following the directive of the Foreigners’ Tribunal.
Bidyut Bikash Bora Bhuyan, Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime) of Barpeta district, stated that all 28 declared foreigners were sent to the detention centre in Goalpara.
“On Monday, Barpeta district police (Border) apprehended 28 declared foreigners from different police station areas in the district. These individuals were apprehended following the Foreigners’ Tribunal order, which declared them as foreigners. Among them, 19 are male and 9 are female. After completing all formalities, they were forwarded to the detention centre in Goalpara. Last month, 22 declared foreigners were also apprehended from different police station areas,” Bhuyan said.
The transit camp, located in the Matia area of Goalpara district, serves as the official term for the 3,000-capacity detention centre for declared foreigners awaiting deportation.
The declared female foreigners were identified as Basatan Nessa from Satrakanra, Aimona Khatun from Bardalni, Ajva Khatun from Keotkushi, Sabia Khatun from Barbaradi, Manowara Begum from Nissanor Char, Jabeda Khatun, Sufia Khatun, Raijan Begum from Kaljhar, and Iatan Nessa from Khandakarpar.
The 19 male detainees included Keramat Miyan from Barbaradi, Abdul Latif from Dabangia, Kitab Ali from Lasanga, Sirajul Haque, Ibrahim Ali from Mankachar, Hanif Ali from Raipur, Munjor Alam, Ainal Mandal from Dumni, Shahadat Ali, Shah Ali Akand, Sonauddin from Gomariguri, Ramezuddin from Agmandiya, Azmat Ali, Based Ali, Salam Ali from Khudra Bamunbari, Abdul Joynal Mir from Ganakpara, Sukur Mia, Malam Mia from Tarabarichar, and Anowar Hussain from Ghugubari.
