Etawah (Uttar Pradesh) [India], April 12 (ANI): Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav on Saturday said that Union government “deliberately” brought the Waqf Amendment Act keeping in mind the upcoming Assembly elections in Bihar and West Bengal, adding that legislation was also brought to hide their own failures.
Akhilesh Yadav made these remarks following the violent protests which have occured in West Bengal against the Waqf Amendment Act.
Addressing a press conference, Akhilesh Yadav said, “Mamata Banerjee will restore law and order there. The central government has spoiled the environment. The central government has brought this (Waqf) law deliberately…They want to win elections in Bihar and West Bengal where they have totally failed…To hide their own failures, they have deliberately created this atmosphere by bringing the Waqf Bill.”
Earlier, West Bengal governor CV Ananda Bose issued directions to the Mamata Banerjee-led state government to take strict action against the miscreants who were responsible for creating disturbances in several areas of the state including Amtala, Suti, Dhuliyan, and other places in Murshidabad and North 24 Parganas.
Mamata Banerjee has said that Waqf Amendment Bill which was recently passed in the recent Parliament session will not be implemented in West Bengal.
Meanwhile, coming out in the defence of Rajya Sabha MP Ramji Lal Suman, Akhilesh Yadav expressed hope that administration in Uttar Pradesh will not treat senior party leader in any disrespectful manner.
“I have full faith that the administration will not be able to treat Ramji Lal Suman in any disrespectful manner. If the government has still given a free hand, then the government is responsible for this,” he said.
Ramji Lal Suman has sparked controversy with his statement on Rana Sanga, a 16th-century Rajput king. He called him a “traitor” for allegedly bringing Babur, the founder of the Mughal dynasty, to defeat Ibrahim Lodi.
On March 26, violence erupted outside the residence of SP MP Suman in Agra. Unidentified individuals resorted to stone pelting, breaking window panes and vandalising vehicles parked outside.
Yadav’s statement came in the wake of a rally organized by Karni Sena in Agra on Saturday to commemorate the birth anniversary of 16th-century Rajput ruler Rana Sanga and also in response to the controversy surrounding MP Ramjilal Suman’s remarks about Rana Sanga.
In addition, Yadav also accused BJP of systematically weakening the Indian Constitution and asserted that Samajwadi party remains committed to preserving the democratic ideals shown by Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar. (ANI)
