Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], November 30 (ANI): Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut on Saturday questioned on why the Sambhal issue and Adani issue despite being serious were not taken up for discussion in the Parliament.
Addressing the media, Raut said “Sambhal incident and Adani issue are very serious but we are not being allowed to raise the issues in the Parliament, then what kind of democracy is left? When we stand up with the leader of Opposition to raise questions, both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha are made to adjourn in two seconds. Why is the government so scared of discussions?”
Notably, both houses of the Parliament were adjourned till December, failing to o conduct substantial business amid continuous sloganeering by opposition MPs in both Houses for the fourth straight day.
Earlier, Congress MP Karti P Chidambaram had said that he hoped the government would allow the opposition to raise issues of importance.
“I hope the government is large-hearted and allows the opposition the space to raise issues of importance. It’s incumbent that the government finds a way in which the opposition can have its say and the government can have its way. The government is in a position to give and the government must give…” Chidambaram told ANI.
Parliament proceedings have been stalled since the beginning of the Winter Session amid protests by opposition parties over the Adani issue and violence in Manipur and Sambhal..
Before adjourning, Rajya Sabha Chairman and Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar slammed the Opposition.
“This cannot be appreciated. We have become a laughing stock, and parliament disruptions are in public distaste. We are creating a very bad precedent. Our actions are not public-centric. We are getting into irrelevance. Rule 267 is being weaponised as a tool of disruption, the Rajya Sabha Chairman said.
The Chairman expressed his deep anguish and profound regret at the disruption in the normal business of the House.
Opposition members have been continuously pushing to have a discussion on the floor on the Adani issue, Sambhal violence and the Manipur situation, raising slogans in the Parliament.
The first session of the winter Parliament commenced on November 25, with both Houses getting adjourned fairly early due to disruptions. The winter session will go on till December 20. (ANI)
