Kamrup (Assam) [India], September 25 (ANI): Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday chaired a meeting with All Assam Students Union (AASU) leadership to discuss the recommendations of Justice (Retd) Biplab Sarma Committee on the implementation of Clause 6 of the Assam Accord.
Speaking to the media after the meeting Chief minister Sarma said that the state government will not implement Assam accord clause 6 without consent in Barak Valley and 6th schedule areas.
Clause 6 of the Assam Accord states that the Assamese people’s cultural, social, linguistic identity, and heritage should be protected, preserved, and promoted through appropriate constitutional, legislative, and administrative safeguards.
“Today, we have engaged with All Assam Students’ Union regarding the implementation of Clause 6 of the Assam Accord. Today, we have analysed the recommendations of the Justice (Retd) Biplab Sarma Committee which can exclusively be implemented by the state government. We have made it clear that those recommendations will not be implemented in Barak Valley and as well as in 6 Schedule areas in the Constitution of India without their consent,” CM Sarma said.
CM Sarma said that the state government will request the Centre to discuss with the AASU for implementation of 15 recommendations which are under the ambit of the Union government.
CM Sarma said that the second phase of the meeting with AASU will be held on October 25 and that the state government will try to implement 52 recommendations of the Justice (Retd) Biplab Sarma Committee by April 15 next year.
“We will request the Centre to discuss with the AASU for implementation of 15 recommendations which are under the ambit of the Union government. We will try to implement 52 recommendations. We will prepare an action plan within a month and on October 25, the second phase of meeting will be held with AASU. We will try to implement 52 recommendations of the committee by April 15 next year,” he said. (ANI)
