Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh) [India], August 16 (ANI): Junior doctors and medical students at the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Medical College (NSCB) in Jabalpur held a protest on Thursday to demand justice for the woman doctor who was allegedly raped and murdered at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata.

Speaking to ANI, Dr. Chandrababu Rajak, one of the protestors questioned why action that should be taken by the government on the rape was being delayed.
“The doctors and medical students of the nation have been demanding justice from the government. Why is the government taking so much time to take action on the incident? Why did the silent protests take place on the night of August 15? Why are our demands for our protection not being met yet?” Rajak questioned.
He further said that doctors who save lives are not safe anymore. He further added that the doctors have appealed to the government to resolve the issues or the emergency services would be shut down.
Rajak said “The doctors who save the lives of the people are not safe anymore. We are appealing to the government to resolve our issues at the earliest so that we can start serving the people again. If our issues are not resolved, we will have to unfortunately shut down the emergency services too.”
“Despite so much protection and home guards, how is it possible that a mob of thousands of people came and vandalized the public property,” he further added.

Earlier today, due to the ongoing indefinite strike of the doctors and the medical students, the academic activities, OPDs, ward services, and elective OT services have been suspended.
Doctors protesting at Gandhi Medical College in the state capital Bhopal said that the strike would continue until justice was served.
Doctor Nidhi Gupta told ANI “Our protest is for the safety of women and we are protesting against whatever happened with the doctor in Kolkata. If a woman is not safe at her workplace then where is she safe? We will step out to work and we can’t stay at home. We want safety, that is why we are protesting.” (ANI)
