Uttarakhand [India], July 31 (ANI): Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, Pushkar Singh Dhami, on Wednesday gave instructions to inspect coaching centres operating in the state.
Dhami said the arrangements that are made for the teachers and students studying in the coaching centres should be inspected on the spot.
He has also directed the Chief Secretary to conduct a state-wide campaign and pay attention to the parking arrangements in the coaching centres for the ease of traffic around them.
In view of heavy rains and the possibility of waterlogging in the state, Dhami stated that various coaching centres operating in the state and basements in various buildings where human activities are being conducted should be investigated promptly and with priority and corrective action should be taken to avoid loss of life and property.
In line with the instructions from Dhami, Chief Secretary Radha Raturi directed all the district magistrates of the state to investigate the coaching centres and such buildings operating in the state.
In the instructions issued by the Chief Secteraty, she said, “In view of the untoward incident that occurred due to waterlogging in the basement of a reputed coaching centre in New Delhi due to excessive rainfall during the monsoon, it should be ensured that various coaching centres operating in Uttarakhand and such buildings in whose basements various types of human activities are being conducted are inspected with top priority under the building bye-laws and other safety related standards/rules.”
She asked the district magistrates to hold an immediate meeting with all the concerned departmental officers and constitute a committee for inspection of all coaching centres in the district and ensure that all types of deficiencies are redressed by getting the mentioned places inspected through the committee.
Raturi had also given instructions to pass appropriate orders to ban such activities in those buildings till the monsoon period and asked for its compliance to avoid any type of accident caused by waterlogging during the monsoon period. She also directed them to inform the government about the action taken in this regard within 15 days.
She further stated to check the fire safety standards in such buildings where various types of human activities are being conducted in basements and to check the availibility of fire extinguishers and alarms as well as a clearly marked escape route in those building or coaching centers in case of any fire.
She directed the Electrical Safety Department to check the electrical system installed in such buildings and to get necessary permission and certificate by the building owner, to incorporate the measures suggested by them. (ANI)
