New Delhi [India], July 25 (ANI): Delhi BJP Secretary and MP Bansuri Swaraj on Thursday accused Delhi Finance Minister Atishi of spreading lies and misinformation regarding the allocation to the national capital in the Union Budget 2024.
“Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva has responded to the lies of Atishi and other Aam Aadmi Party leaders three times, clearly stating that in the last 10 years, the central government has either undertaken development works worth Rs5.5 lakh crore in Delhi or provided grants under various heads. However, Minister Atishi is not refraining from playing the game of lies and misinformation,” Bansuri Swaraj said in a press release.
Swaraj challenged Atishi for a public debate on the financial assistance given to Delhi by the central government in the last 10 years with a BJP spokesperson representative.
Bansuri Swaraj also said that the announcement of a protest by the INDIA alliance on July 30 against Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s arrest is laughable, as the largest party in the alliance, Congress, as well as its leaders from Delhi, Punjab and even Gujarat, are calling Kejriwal corrupt. In such a scenario, the announcement of the protest by the alliance is deceptive, she said.
Earlier in the day, launching a scathing attack against the Centre over the Union Budget 2024-25, Atishi said that injustice is being done to the people of Delhi.
“Two days ago Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led central govt presented the union budget. Delhi government has raised this issue regarding how injustice is being done to Delhi govt and the people of Delhi,” said Atishi.
The Delhi Finance Minister highlighted that the people of the national capital paid Rs 2.60 lakh crore of tax but the centre has not allocated enough funds for the welfare of Delhi.
“The people of Delhi paid tax of Rs 2.60 lakh crore and the people of Delhi demanded that Delhi should get at least five per cent of this from the budget. But, what the people of Delhi got was a disappointment,” said Atishi.
Delhi Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj also expressed dissatisfaction, saying that tax is collected from the entire country but the fund has been allocated to only two states Bihar and Andhra Pradesh.
“The people of Delhi, who gave all seven seats to the BJP, have been snubbed by the BJP. The states that gave the maximum number of seats to the BJP were not given anything but the two crutches on which the central government has to run, Bihar and Andhra Pradesh, were given a special package… You are just trying to save the government… Tax is being collected from the whole country but the expenditure is being made in only two states… This is wrong.”
Notably, the BJP is set to hold nationwide programmes to inform the public across the country about the features and benefits of the Union Budget 2024-25 in the wake of the ongoing protest by the opposition parties accusing the budget of being ‘discriminatory.’
In this regard, the BJP will organise programmes across the country on Saturday and Sunday.
Union Ministers and national office bearers will visit prominent places in the country to have detailed discussions with people about the budget. Members of Parliament will visit every district, and programmes will be held in every district regarding Budget 2024-25. (ANI)
