New Delhi [India], June 8 (ANI): Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said on Saturday that the re-election of Sonia Gandhi as the Chairperson of the Congress Parliamentary Party was natural and said everyone wants Rahul Gandhi to be the leader of the Opposition.
On Sonia Gandhi being re-elected as the chairperson of the Congress Parliamentary Party, Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said, “It is natural…Who could be there when there is madam? Everyone wants Rahul Gandhi to become leader of the opposition.”
“One has to take an oath to form a government. It is not a new thing,” Chowdhury responded on Narendra Modi taking oath as Prime Minister for the third term on June 9, Sunday.
Congress leader Ghulam Ahmad Mir said,”I congratulate Sonia ji. Everyone in the country will be happy that Sonia ji has been chosen as the CPP…She has served a long time as a Parliamentarian…The way Rahul Gandhi has set an agenda for the backward, tribals, unemployed youth, women, farmers, and labourers. The whole country now wants to hear Rahul Gandhi inside the Parliament…The Congress party and the whole country want Rahul Gandhi to play a major role.”
Congress leader Salman Khurshid told ANI, “It is a matter of great happiness for us. The party leadership works under her guidance…It is obvious that this was bound to happen…”
After Congress leader Sonia Gandhi was re-elected as the Chairperson of (CPP), party chief Mallikarjun Kharge on Saturday said that she will keep guiding the Congress party.
In the CPP meeting held at the Central Hall of Parliament, Sonia Gandhi was re-elected as the Chairperson of the Congress Parliamentary Party.
Party chief Mallikarjun Kharge on Saturday said that she will keep guiding the Congress party.
“It is good she (Sonia Gandhi) has been re-elected as CPP and she will keep guiding us,” Kharge told ANI.
Earlier in the meeting, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge proposed the name of Sonia Gandhi for the post.
Congress leader KC Venugopal also said that the CPP unanimously elected Sonia Gandhi as the CPP chairperson. Now CPP chairperson has to nominate floor leaders of Lok Sabha.
Several prominent Congress leaders including UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, party chief Mallikarjun Kharge and general secretary KC Venugopal are present at the meeting.
Earlier today, the Congress Working Committee passed the resolution that party MP Rahul Gandhi should be appointed as the Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, sources said on Saturday.
Rahul Gandhi won the Lok Sabha elections from Raebareli in Uttar Pradesh and Wayanad in Kerala.
Congress fought the election as part of the INDIA bloc and the parties together were able to prevent BJP from getting a majority on its own in Lok Sabha. The BJP-led NDA won 293 in the polls.
In the Lok Sabha polls in 2024, the BJP did not cross the majority mark, bagging 240 seats. The Congress, on the other hand, registered a strong improvement, winning 99 seats. While the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance won 293 seats, the INDIA bloc crossed the 230 mark, posing stiff competition, and defying all predictions. (ANI)
