Chandigarh (Punjab) [India], June 6 (ANI): Hours after the Central Industrial Security Force constable allegedly slapped Bharatiya Janata Party leader Kangana Ranaut at the Chandigarh airport, the CISF sprung into action and suspended the constable and said that the investigation is underway.
Ranaut was allegedly slapped by a CISF constable while she was headed to Delhi to attend a meeting of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), scheduled for tomorrow.
Taking cognizance of the incident Chandigarh Superintendent of Police (Detective) KS Sandhu arrived at Chandigarh airport and held a meeting with a CISF officer regarding the Kangana Ranaut incident.
“CISF Commandant has called me, I am going to the airport for investigation. I will Commandant CISF and let you know,” KS Sandhu said.
Meanwhile, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini asserted that action will be taken against the accused.
“An investigation is underway and action will be taken against the accused. It is sad that a person involved in the security is involved in this. Whatever happened was wrong,” Haryana CM said.
On Kangana Ranaut slapped by CISF woman constable, BJP leader Jairam Thakur said that the investigation would take place.
“It is unfortunate whatever has happened. For a security person to behave like this at Chandigarh airport is very unfortunate. Investigation will be done and I have got information that the security person has been suspended,” BJP leader Thakur said.
Reacting to the Kangana Ranaut slap incident, Congress leader Vikramaditya Singh called it “unfortunate.”
“This is very unfortunate. This should not happen to anyone, particularly a lady who is a member of Parliament now. There were some grievances of the CISF constable regarding the farmer’s protest but assaulting someone like this is unfortunate. We condemn this and action should be taken by the government against this,” Vikramaditya said.
After the incident, Ranaut took to her social media account and asked how growing “extremism” and “terrorism” can be ended in Punjab.
“I am safe. I am perfectly fine. The incident took place during the security check. After I was done with the security check, a woman constable of the CISF waited for me to pass through the cabin. Later, she came from the side, hit me in the face and started abusing me”, Ranaut said in a post on ‘X’.
“When I asked her why she did this, she told me that she (CISF official) had supported the farmers’ protest. My (Kangana) question is how we end growing extremism and terrorism in Punjab”, the BJP leader added.
Meanwhile, the CISF constable said that her mother was among the farmers holding a sit-in protest against the farm laws, which now have been repealed.
“She stated that the farmers are sitting there for Rs 100. Will she go and sit there? My mother was sitting there and protesting when she gave this statement…” she said.
The 15-month-long farmers’ protest was held against the farm laws (now repealed) including other issues.
Kangana Ranaut defeated Congress candidate Vikramaditya Singh from Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi by a margin of 74,755 votes.
She garnered 5,37,022 votes while Singh got 4,62,267 votes, according to the latest data from the Election Commission of India.
The Mandi constituency holds symbolic significance for the Congress, as it is considered a bastion of the Virbhadra family. The seat was being held by Pratibha Devi Singh, the late leader’s widow.
As per the results announced by the Election Commission of India on Tuesday, the BJP won 240 seats and along with its allies, it stands at 293 seats. Chandrababu Naidu’s TDP and Nitish Kumar’s JDU, having won 16 and 12 seats respectively in their respective states, have extended support to the NDA.
The INDIA bloc has 234 MPs in the new parliament with the Congress having won 99 seats. (ANI)
