New Delhi [India], May 17 (ANI): Bharatiya Janta Party MP Manoj Tiwari on Sunday warned the Congress over their objection to Central Government choosing their senior leader Shashi Tharoor to lead one of the seven delegations to present India’s stance on terrorism.
The Congress has objected to central government decision to choose Tharoor noting that the party did not recommend Thiruvananthapuram MP for this task.
Speaking with ANI, Manoj Tiwari said that Congress’ behaviour is “not going to serve any good.”
“Congress’s behaviour earlier this operation and their behaviour now, this is not going to serve any good for Congress. It won’t be good for the Congress-ruled states either. This is not a subject for politics,” Tiwari said.
Tiwari lauded the BJP led central government to select MPs for every party to lead the delegation.
“It is the greatness of the central govt that they are selecting a few MPs from every party (to lead the delegations),” he said.
Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh informed that the party had recommended Anand Sharma, former Union Cabinet Minister, Gaurav Gogoi, Deputy Leader, INC in Lok Sabha Syed Naseer Hussain, MP, Rajya Sabha; and Raja Brar, MP, Lok Sabha to be part of the delegation.
Ramesh asserted that the Congress is “not going to change” the names of four MPs, adding that choosing Tharoor is “dishonest on the government’s part.”
“We were asked for names. We expected that the names we had given would be included. We hoped that the names given by the party would be included. But when we saw the press release of PIB, we were surprised. I cannot say what will happen now. Asking four names, giving four names, and announcing another name is dishonest on the government’s part. It is possible that’ Mr Rijiju had talked to Rahul ji and Kharge even after the government had made up their mind, but I am giving him the benefit of the doubt. But what happened is dishonest. We are not going to change these four names,” Jairam Ramesh said
The central government has entrusted the responsibility to present India’s stance on terrorism to the world on seven MPs, each which will lead a delegation.
Following MPs will lead the delegations: Congress leader Shashi Tharoor, BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad, JDU leader Sanjay Kumar Jha, BJP leader Baijayant Panda, DMK leader Kanimozhi Karunanidhi, NCP (SP) leader Supriya Sule, and Shiv Sena leader Shrikant Eknath Shinde.
The tour is expected to last 10 days, commencing on May 23. The parliamentarians’ groups are likely to visit several key world capitals, including the United States, the United Kingdom, the United Arab Emirates, South Africa, and Japa
This is the first time that the Centre will depute MPs from multiple parties to present India’s stance on Kashmir and cross-border terrorism originating from Pakistan.
India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7 in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack in which 26 people were killed. India’s precision strikes in Pakistan and PoJK on May 7 killed over 100 terrorists. (ANI)
