“Our thoughts are with those who have lost their loved ones and prayers with those injured for a speedy recovery. The situation is being closely monitored and authorities are providing all possible assistance to the affected,” he added.
‘Remal’ flattened fragile dwellings, uprooted trees and knocked down electric poles. The wind intensity of 110 to 120 kmph, gusting to 135 kmph. Visuals from outside the Raj Bhavan on Tuesday showed heavy rains and gusty winds lashing the capital city.
The water levels of the Brahmaputra River, the Barak River and its tributaries are rising up following incessant rainfall in Assam, Mizoram and some parts of other North Eastern states.
Heavy rainfall has caused flooding in parts of Manipur, including Imphal, where two overflowing rivers have inundated several areas. This occurred after cyclone Remal triggered continuous rainfall in the state.
The Indian Army and Assam Rifles conducted extensive relief and rescue operations in the flood-like situation caused by torrential rains during cyclone Remal in the state of Manipur.
Security forces deployed for internal security have swiftly responded by providing immediate relief and support to affected citizens. To date, the forces have successfully rescued over 4000 individuals from affected areas in Manipur, including over 1500 women and 800 children.
Earlier on Thursday, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh chaired a meeting with ministers, MLAs, the Chief Secretary, security officials, and all department officials to review the flood situation in the state.
Cyclone Remal has also left a trail of devastation across Tripura, with the power department reporting losses exceeding Rs 5 crore, officials said.
The officials said that no human lives were lost and efforts to restore power in the state are underway. (ANI)
