Jaisalmer (Rajasthan) [India], May 3 (ANI): As tensions escalate along the India-Pakistan border after the horrific terror attack in Pahalgam, residents of Tanot village in Rajasthan’s Jaisalmer, located just 20 kilometres from the Line of Control (LoC), are expressing both concern and resilience.
Basru Ram, a long-time resident of Tanot, recalled the days of the 1965 war and said that he has lived in the region for 50 years but even today, the government has not provided much support to the citizens residing in the region.
“I’ve lived here for 50 years. We had to leave for Ramgarh during the war but returned. Even now, the government hasn’t provided much support. In Pahalgam, innocent people are being killed — even BSF jawans are not spared. Pakistan refuses to attend flag meetings and is acting on its own terms”, he said.
He added that the country should declare war against Pakistan. Otherwise, the neighbouring country would not listen. Basru Ram said that Pakistan is sheltering terrorists and emphasised the divine power of the village’s temple. The latter recalled the 1965 war when the bomb shells landed in the village but didn’t explode.
“We should go to war — Pakistan won’t listen otherwise. They are sheltering terrorists who are attacking our side. But we believe in the power of our village temple. Even during the 1965 war, shells landed on it but didn’t explode — that’s its divine power”, he added.
Despite shelling risks, Basru Ram believes that the community has unwavering faith. He said that he released his cattle to safety during the 1965 war.
“The community has unwavering faith. Back then, we even released our cattle to safety. We don’t know where missiles might fall today, but we are prepared”, he said.
Meanwhile, another local, Nutan Kumar, highlights a different challenge. He said everything in the region is fine except for the water problem. He asserted that there has been no water for the last 10 days, so the locals have to walk a long distance to fetch the water. Kumar added that despite all the problems, the village people are standing firm with the armed forces.
With rising border tensions and basic infrastructure woes, villagers in Tanot remain defiant and united, standing with the nation even in the face of adversity. (ANI)
