New Delhi [India], August 11 (ANI): Fourteen people, including six women and four children, were admitted to AIIMS Trauma Centre and Safdarjung Hospital after they were rescued from a fire that broke out at a four-storey residential building in Fatehpur Beri area in the early hours of Sunday, police said.
Two suffered burn injuries while others faced breathing problems due to excessive smoke, police said.
According to the Delhi Fire Service, a fire call was received from the Jagbir Colony, Asola Village area in Fatehpur Beri and three fire tenders were rushed to the site to douse it.
According to a primary investigation by the Delhi Police, the fire occurred on the ground floor due to a short circuit.
The fire had also engulfed some vehicles and electric metres in the stilt parking of the building.
A total of 10 electric metres, six motorcycles and two scooters were gutted in the fire, police said.
Neelam, a resident of the building, said, “I live on the first floor. The fire started at around 3:00 to 3:30 am but no one knew as everyone was sleeping. People outside the building were shouting that there was a fire. When we opened our balcony doors, we saw fire in our building. I was confused about how to escape so I jumped from the first floor to escape the fire. Police rescued the other people through the roofs of the other buildings and those who came through the stairs got burned.” (ANI)
